FDA's DO- NOT-USE List - FDA Just Bans Additional Hand Sanitizers

Hand sanitizer has become essential in our fight against COVID-19 pandemic but that product you've been using could be dangerous to your health, even life-threatening. The Food and Drug Administration is now banning hundreds of hand sanitizers.

The previous FDA recalls involved hand sanitizers that contain the toxic substance methanol. The most recent update to the list also includes some "ineffective" hand sanitizers because they have very low levels of ethyl alcohol.

As of August 4, the FDA's list stands at 135 different hand sanitizing products. Most of the products are labeled as "Made in Mexico" according to the FDA. As reported in the Miami Herald, a few of the products on the FDA's list were previously sold at Walmart, Target, Costco and BJ's Wholesale Club.

Even though voluntary recalls have been issued, but some products may still be found on store shelves. Check the list below before you buy.

Which hand sanitizers are toxic or ineffective?

The FDA's recall list includes the following 135 variations. Recent additions include the following:
